Player Story

A wicketkeeper and top-order batter, Bancroft was offered a WA rookie contract ahead of the 2012-13 season following three breakthrough One-Day Cup appearances in 2011-12. Bancroft scored 896 runs, including three centuries, in the 2014-15 Sheffield Shield season, leading to a call-up for the Test squad to face Bangladesh, only for the tour to be postponed. He backed up those efforts with 726 runs in the 2015-16 Shield season and earned Twenty20 International debut as a wicketkeeper. Bancroft began the 2017-18 Shield season with an unbeaten 228 against South Australia at the WACA Ground, earning him a Test call-up and an Ashes debut. In 2019, Bancroft returned to international cricket as part of Australia's Ashes tour of England. The gritty right-hander, who relishes the contest, played a large role in WA's drought-breaking 2021-22 Sheffield Shield title.
