Connolly joined Western Australia on a rookie contract ahead of the 2021-22 domestic season, and is seen as a prospect of exceptional promise. With the ball, Connolly is a versatile left arm orthodox spinner, capable of taking wickets and conserving runs. As a batter, Connolly strikes the ball cleanly and scores quickly.

He rose to prominence during the KFC BBL|12 Final, where he struck an unbeaten 25 off 11 balls to guide the Scorchers to victory in front of over 53 thousand fans at Optus Stadium. 

The talented left-hander made his Marsh ODC debut the following season and immediately impressed, scoring 42 not out and hitting the winning runs as WA beat Queensland.

The big moments kept coming for the talented 21-year-old, becoming the first WA to make his first-class debut in a Sheffield Shield Final in the 2023-24 decider against Tasmania at the WACA Ground. His calmness and composure at the crease were on show as he compiled a chanceless 90 as WA completed a hat-trick of Shield titles.

He was selected in Australia's white-ball squad for a tour of the UK in September 2024, making both his ODI and T20I debuts against England.

He produced a breakout BBL|14 tournament blasting 351 runs at 50.14, which saw him finish as the tournament's leading run-scorer and earn him a place in the Team of the Tournament for the first time in his career.

Connolly was rewarded for his strong BBL form, by being selected in Australia's Test squad for the tour of Sri Lanka.
