Born in the Northern Territory, Short made his WA debut in 2011 but didn't become a regular in the State setup until 2016. The powerful left-hander has since transformed into one of WA's most destructive 50-over players and holds the record for the State's highest List A score - the remarkable 148-ball 257 he blasted against Queensland in 2018. Short played regular white ball cricket for Australia between 2018 and 2020 and has featured in top Twenty20 competitions around the globe, including the Indian Premier League.

At the batting crease, Short has fluent bat and hits the ball powerfully. He is also a useful left-arm wrist spinner and has played as WA's primary spin bowling option on numerous occasions.

Short has been a crucial member of WA's white-ball success in recent years, playing in all three of WA's Marsh One-Day Cup titles in the last three seasons. 

He made a blistering century in a must-win clash against Tasmania last season, striking 127 at better than run-a-ball in a Player of the Match performance to get his team over the line.

The powerful left-hander also played a vital hand in the 2023-24 Sheffield Shield title, as WA went on to make it a hat-trick of red-ball titles. Replacing the injured Cameron Bancroft at the top of the order, Short combined with skipper Sam Whiteman for a 110-run stand for the opening wicket to set WA on the path to victory. Short's contributions in the match were valuable on a bowler friendly wicket, producing scores of 50 and 38.
