Player Story

Turner joined Western Australia on a Rookie contract ahead of the 2012-13 season and has since evolved into one of the State's most destructive limited overs batters, who also bowls useful off-spin. The tall right-hander remarkably made his First-Class debut for Australia in a tour match against Sussex during the 2013 Ashes, before scoring 62 not-out against England in his second First-Class game, this time representing the WA Chairman's XI. Several impressive white ball campaigns saw Turner earn his Twenty20 International debut against Sri Lanka in Melbourne in 2017.

A One-Day International debut followed against India in Hyderabad in March 2019, before Turner was named Player of the Match in his second ODI after blasting an unbeaten 84 from 43. This innings helped Australia eclipse India's total of 9-358, which remains the nation's highest successful run chase in ODIs. Composed on field and a respected tactician, Turner has captained WA and Perth Scorchers in all three formats.

His tactical nous as captain in the 50-over game for Western Australia has been one of the main reasons for the state's recent white-ball success, as winners of the past three domestic one-day titles.  His leadership is highly praised, but what is often forgot about is his ability to win games off his own bat from the middle order. Turner has been at the heart of many successful run-chases for WA over the years and now has a place among the state's most successful captains.

While his exploits in the white-ball game are the first thing that to come to mind when you think of Turner, his performance in the 2022-23 Sheffield Shield Final will also go down in history. With WA 5-139 in reply to Victoria's first innings total, Turner produced a career-best knock of 128 to set the game up for his team. His score was the most significant individual contribution of the match and earned him Player of the Match honours.
