During the month of March, WA Cricket focused in on one of their pillars, women in sport.
Women in Cricket Leadership Network Speaks on Women Empowerment
Coinciding with the annual International Women’s Day which falls on March 8, WA Cricket hosted a Women in Cricket Leadership Network event, in celebration of the day.
Held at the Claremont Hotel, the event was a chance for the Women in Cricket Leadership Network to hear about how others have navigated the sporting waters, whilst being a woman.
The night also involved a panel which WA Cricket General Manager – Community Cricket Jo Davies moderated.
Team Connect Founder and Program Director Margie Oldfield, Phoenix Beeliar Junior Cricket Club member Cassandra Harrison and Bedford Junior Cricket Club member Belinda Woods spoke about their time as part of the Project Inspire and how they’ve moved through what is typically seen as a male dominant sport to grow the game for young women and girls.
The event was also a chance for the women to bring their male champion, which helped to open up the discussion around what more can be done to create equality between men and women in sporting organisations.
WA Cricket are proud to be a leading force in WA when it comes to encouraging and supporting women and young girls who play, coach, umpire or cheer on the game of cricket.
