Becky Grundy will guide the WA and Perth Scorchers Women’s teams until at least the end of the 2026-27 domestic campaign, signing on as Head Coach for another two seasons.
Becky Grundy recommits to WA
Grundy has been instrumental in developing the state’s female high performance program, mentoring a youthful squad since being appointed to the role ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Prior to becoming Head Coach, Grundy supported WA in the second half of their 2019-20 WNCL campaign as an assistant coach, helping the State secure its maiden WNCL crown.
She will combine state duties with her current role as Perth Scorchers Weber Women’s Big Bash League Head Coach, a position Grundy has held since taking the reins from current Australian Women’s Head Coach Shelley Nitschke ahead of WBBL|09.
An assistant coach under Nitschke, Grundy was heavily involved in the Scorchers’ maiden WBBL championship in WBBL|07, and saw the Scorchers qualify for finals during her first campaign in charge.
Grundy’s impressive credentials have been recognised by Cricket Australia, with the 34-year-old poised to coach Australia A in a multi-format series against England A which begins in Sydney on Wednesday.
Reflecting on extending her contract with WA and the Scorchers, Grundy said:
“I am excited to continue as Head Coach for another two years, working with a really driven and talented group of players and staff at WA and the Scorchers.
“I have really enjoyed my time here so far, and I am very glad WA Cricket has shown the faith in me.
“We’ve worked really hard to create a team environment where our athletes can thrive, and I’m looking forward to continuing on that journey for the next couple of years.
“I know everyone within the playing group and staff are so determined to achieve team success, and I am really confident that success is just around the corner for us.”
WA Cricket General Manager – High Performance Cricket and Elite Teams, Kade Harvey said:
“Becky has made a significant impact in five seasons as Head Coach of WA and the two seasons at the helm of Perth Scorchers, and we’re confident both teams will continue to grow under her guidance.
“Since joining WA Cricket, Becky has spent a lot of time building strong relationships with staff and players who value and respect the way she operates.
“Becky also reads and understands the game well and has a clear and ambitious vision for our elite women’s program.
“It is a great opportunity for Becky to be Head Coach of Australia A next month, and we look forward to her leading both WA and the Scorchers for the next two years.”
