Local Clubs Shine During Perth Scorchers Culture Cup Final

The Perth Scorchers Culture Cup Finals took place at Hillcrest Reserve in February, with cricketers from across the metropolitan area coming together to compete.

The finals were a culmination of games between eight teams which had qualified for the Perth Scorchers Culture Cup tournament by either winning of the four recognised Multicultural competitions, Perth Community Premier League, All Nations Cup tournament, Sub Cup and SMT Cup, across the year.

For the first time this season, WA Cricket also facilitated a Culture Cup Qualifying tournament during December, last year.

16 teams participated in the qualifying tournament, with four earning the right to participate in the Culture Cup.

Virsa Cricket Club emerged victorious in the grand final, giving them consecutive Culture Cup wins.

Vibrant Gujarat won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a competitive score of 108.

During the run chase, Virsa’s Shaban Ahmed hit 43 runs off 33 balls, which earned him Player of the Match honours.

Ahmed’s efforts with the bat allowed Virsa to chase down the 109-run target with three overs to spare.

Cricket Australia Multicultural Ambassador Swarup Afsar was on hand to present awards at the end of the match.

“It is fantastic that WA Cricket supports the community and bringing cultures together through cricket,” Afsar said.

“We are the custodians of the game right now, but it is important that we give the next generation a platform to come through and carry it forward.

“So, thank you to both teams for all your hard work and congratulations to Virsa.”

WA Cricket also acknowledges Cricket Australia Multicultural Ambassador Nilesh Makwana for his support of Multicultural Cricket in WA and events such as the Perth Scorchers Culture Cup.
