SportsWest Award Winners Announced

It was another successful evening at the WA SportsWest Awards for WA Cricket, claiming two of the night's most coveted honours.

The WA Men’s team have been recognised for their recent on-field dominance of domestic cricket to be crowned winners in the Team of the Year category, after delivering a further two titles in the Marsh One-Day Cup and Sheffield Shield competitions.

WA completed their third straight 50-over title with a dramatic win over New South Wales in the Final, after finishing the qualifying matches in second place with four wins from seven matches.

The path to Sheffield Shield glory wasn’t as straight forward, with the side having to win their final two matches and needing other results to go their way in order to qualify for their third straight decider.

With luck on their side, WA were able to earn hosting rights for the Final and they never looked back, dominating Tasmania at the WACA Ground to secure a third straight Sheffield Shield trophy.

Their feats during the 2023-24 season meant they became the first state to win a hat-trick of both domestic titles, simultaneously.

Meanwhile, Margie Oldfield was named Volunteer of the Year for her tireless devotion to WA Cricket's Team Connect program.

Oldfield's contribution to the outreach program been instrumental, with Team Connect aiming to create an inclusive environment for children and families to participate in community cricket.

Her passion for the social, physical and emotional benefits that community cricket offers the people involved have lead Oldfield to hold some crucial roles within local cricket, as both Chair of Team Connect and Chair of Metropolitan Junior Community Cricket.

Team Connect was founded in 2018 by Oldfield, with the purpose of providing a safe space for young Females in need and using cricket as the vehicle for relief.

The program now works with schools to nominate at-risk children to participate and then engages with local cricket teams, to implement the outreach program across suburbs of Perth.

The WA Cricket Foundation is a proud supporter of Team Connect and the work it does within the local community.

WA Cricket also wishes to congratulate its other finalists:
• Perth Scorchers BBL and WA Men's Head Coach Adam Voges (KPMG Coach of the Year);
• Talented WA and Perth Scorchers quick Mahli Beardman (Rebel Sport Junior Sport Star of the Year)
