Perth Metropolitan Junior Clubs Unite

Perth Metropolitan's Community Junior Cricket Council (CJCC) and it's six affiliated junior associations came together to unite and become a single entity, which will oversee Junior Cricket in the Perth and Peel area.

The amalgamation, which will be known as Metropolitan Junior Community Cricket Inc (MJCC), represents over two years of work which has been championed by community cricket volunteers, who have reviewed the best structure to promote and support junior clubs, players and volunteers.

WA Cricket General Manager Community Cricket Jo Davies said the amalgamation was no small undertaking.

“The commitment and vision shown by the CJCC leaders and the assistance of Peter Minchin from Purpose Driven Performance was instrumental in ensuring junior community cricket in the metro area has a modern, best practise platform to support its players, coaches and volunteers moving forward,” she said.

“The terrific outcome of this project will be less burden on our key volunteers and offer more support for those in grassroot community clubs, a fantastic outcome for all.”

The streamlined governance model will reduce duplication and burden on volunteers, while allowing for best practise competition governance across junior metro cricket.

CJCC Chair Margie Oldfield said the new governance structure will allow for a greater focus on getting more kids out playing cricket, having fun and supported by more parents who feel confident in their roles.

“We can now focus our energy on creating positive playing environments, increasing the diversity of players and volunteers, building out umpire programs and collaborating with each other to support retention for our older players,” she said.

The new MJCC board will comprise of nine members with six elected members from the previous Junior Cricket Associations to ensure continuity and continued local knowledge, as well as three appointed members.

With local associations no longer active, three local advisory hubs will also be formed, driven by WA Cricket Regional Managers, to ensure local support, networking and strategic priorities continue to be championed.

Junior participants will see minimal difference in their operations, with competitions to remain local and all competition rules and policies from the CJCC continuing to be in operation, which will be governed by the new MJCC.

Club registrations are now open with the 2024-25 season calendar now available which includes playing dates, key events and training opportunities for coaches and volunteers.
