WA Cricket’s Volunteers of the Month for February are Andrew Thorpe and Andy Wahid from Whitfords Junior Cricket Club.
February Volunteer of the Month
Andrew currently coaches the Year Seven Blue team at the club, while Andy serves as the Team manager.
Both are enthusiastic, passionate, and committed to improving each individual they coach, and consistently go above and beyond to make junior cricket the best possible experience for their players.
To fast track the development of the Year 7 Team, Andrew and Andy went out of their way to organise some indoor sessions at Revolution Sports, where they had access to multiple indoor nets and bowling machines.
The sessions were designed to allow for more one-on-one coaching with individual players, with the team broken up into smaller groups. The skill of batting was a particular focus area during these sessions, with both Andrew and Andy recognising batting as an area of improvement by their team after their struggles in recent matches.
The sessions at Revolution Sports were organised solely by Andrew and Andy, with no prompts or expectations from Whitfords, which speaks volumes to the commitment of both individuals and how much passion they have for wanting to see junior cricketers take their game to the next level.
The efforts of Andrew and Andy have been extremely well received from everyone at Whitfords JCC and it has inspired the players in the team to give their best for the rest of their season and improve with every match they play.
Both Andrew and Andy are valued members of the Whitfords Junior Cricket Club and are well deserved winners of February’s Volunteer of the Month.
