Western Australia have selected a 12-player squad for their Toyota Second XI clash against Queensland, to be played from January 22-25 at Scotch College.
Goodwin to lead Second XI against Queensland
Jayden Goodwin has been named as captain for the four-day fixture, following a strong start to the 2023-24 domestic campaign.
The 22-year-old has started to cement himself in WA’s Marsh Sheffield Shield team this season, playing an important role in the middle-order over the past three matches.
The classy left-hander produced a match-winning knock against South Australia back in November, compiling a hard-fought 47 not out in the fourth innings to get his side over the line by two wickets in a thrilling contest.
Goodwin also featured in the Cricket Australia XI, who took on the West Indies at Karen Rolton Oval earlier this month, alongside teammate Liam Haskett.
Swing bowler Matthew Kelly is in line to make his long-awaited return, having recovered from a calf injury, which has kept him out of action so far this summer.
Shield regulars Hilton Cartwright, Corey Rocchiccioli, Cameron Gannon and Teague Wyllie will also feature, with the Queensland clash to provide a valuable red-ball hit out before WA’s next Sheffield Shield fixture, against New South Wales at the WACA Ground, starting Saturday February 3.
WA are undefeated in the Toyota Second XI competition after two matches, following a hard-earned draw against South Australia and a convincing victory over ACT.
